The second part of the CD-ROM Fundamentals tutorial will focus on search and retrieval software, the indexing process, multimedia authoring options available today as well as many of the premastering and publishing issues that you will need to know about in order to create a CD-ROM.
Instructor: Dave Lind, C-Cubed Corporation
Instructor: Barry Gribble, System G
This workshop will cover some of the advanced issues in CD recording. We will explore optimum file and directory structure for successful recording, optimizing directory tracking and troubleshooting recording errors, and CD-R testing methods and equipment. We will discuss current recorders and software and their capabilities and limitations, and we will look at the new crop of recording software for Windows 95. We will examine drive letter access o CD-R and look at some current implementations. We will also discuss direct disc-to-disc copying and Digital Audio Extraction.
Instructor: Dana Parker, Writer
Instructor: Bob Starrett, Writer
This intermediate-level tutorial is designed to meet the needs of training managers, CBT and interactive video authors, and multimedia designers and programmers. You'll learn how to capture and compress images for maximum playback quality, how and where to use "codecs" like Indeo and Cinepak, and when to consider hardware playback alternatives like MPEG or DVI. This tutorial will help you produce high-quality digital video effectively and efficiently.
Instructor: Jan Ozer, Doceo Publishing
This three-hour session will present the basics of compact disc quality measurement and parameters with emphasis on the uniqueness of CD-R, from a physical compatibility standpoint. The tutorial will address issues such as parameter definitions as block error rate, error correction, jitter and length deviation, etc. If you need to guarantee your data integrity, then you will want to understand how to test for this. You will learn about the makeup of the data structure on a CD-ROM. The common attributes and the differences between replicated versus recordable CDs will be explained. The hardware components required to create measurement systems will be described. Practical considerations around cost involved in testing your product will be discussed. Come to this session and learn what the three main reasons for testing your CD-ROMs are.
Instructor: Scott Gerger, Audio Development Corporation
This tutorial will focus on Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and how its use can be leveraged in providing multiple types of access to the same information database. It will define the specifics of the SGML standard and identify how its application will play an increasing role in the development of CD-ROM projects and also explore the elements of Document Type Definition (DTD). You will also be given an opportunity to share experiences with an individual who works in a private consulting group that specializes in SGML conversion.
Instructor: Bill Reilly
Instructor: Debbie Lapeyre, ATLIS
Are you curious about how to get started developing interactive training? This introduction to interactive training will focus on planning the project, gaining an understanding of the authoring software on the market today, determining how many different skills will be needed to accomplish your goals, and how you can effectively use templates for rapid prototyping. These topics will be demonstrated on a PC using a CD-ROM designed to train course developers in creating interactive training CD-ROMs.
Instructor: John Carney, Carney Interactive
This tutorial will begin with the basics of document imaging, and an overview of scanning, storing, and imaging theory will cover the different types of images, various capture mediums, how the images are processed, the best types of compression, and cleaning up images. This tutorial will provide you with an overview of the components required for the different processes of imaging. Attendees will leave this class with a basic vocabulary and understanding of document imaging.
